As you depart downtown Juneau, your driver-guide will share the colorful history of Juneau's gold rush era and point out buildings of interest. Alaska's Capital City is always bustling with activity, even though it is surrounded by rainforest wilderness and rugged terrain. You will hardly believe your eyes as you arrive at the Mendenhall Glacier, just a few miles from downtown Juneau. Visit the Mendenhall Glacier Visitors Center. Here U.S. Forest Service staff, will share information on glaciers as you view this magnificent geologic phenomenon from the unobstructed vantage point. The Mendenhall Glacier is 1.5 miles wide, hundreds of feet thick and is fed by the 1,500-square-mile Juneau Icefield. This meandering river of compressed ice ranks as the largest, most rugged glacier accessible by road. You will have 1.5 hours to spend on-site, and will be free to explore nature trails and have breathtaking photo opportunities before returning to the ship's gangway.

Our meeting place for this tour is at: Mount Roberts Tramway, 490 S Franklin Street.
